Coral Dip

Quarantine bath for new coral

Definition

A coral dip is a chemical bath (Bayer, CoralRx, Revive, ReVive Coral Cleaner) applied to all incoming coral as a quarantine step to remove pests like flatworms, nudibranchs, AEFW, montipora-eating nudibranchs, and red bugs.

Practical use in aquariums

Standard protocol: agitate coral in dip solution per manufacturer instructions (typically 5-15 minutes), then rinse in fresh saltwater before placement. Dip every new piece - even from trusted vendors - because hitchhikers can wipe out an established colony in weeks. Frag plug discs should also be discarded and remounted.

How Coral Dip fits the bigger picture

Understanding Coral Dip matters because it's connected to broader husbandry decisions: fragging skill compounds: the more you frag, the more you understand coral biology + propagate your own pieces.
